THE JUNOS, CIMA'S AND THE TREWS
By KRYS GRANDMOND
Staff Writer
With two of the biggest events in Canadian music just around the corner, people are
starting to buzz.
The Juno Awards, an annual event recognizing great Canadian talent for over 30
years, will be held in Edmonton, Alberta this year. April 4th is the date, so mark it on
your calendars.
Along with some well-known, big-name nominees (including my favourite, Nickelback),
new Canadian bands and artists are getting their break at the big time.
Hailing from Niagara Falls, Ontario, the Trews have been battling the music charts and
performing for more audiences last year than any other artist or band on the Agency
Group roster, including Nickelback and Sam Roberts. Not a small feat considering both
are top-selling, world-touring names.
The Trews are up for New Group of The Year, running alongside other Canadian
bands Billy Talent, The Dears, Lillix and Three Days Grace. And if that's not enough,
they're also up for Favourite Rock Artist or Group at this year's Canadian Independent
Music Awards. It's happening March 3rd in Toronto to kick off the much anticipated
Canadian Music Week. Go here to vote for them. They're going to need a lot of fan
support, as they're taking on fellow nominees Gob, Sum 41, The Salads and Theory of
a Deadman in this category!
If you want to catch the Trews live, get out to Thorold, Ontario on Saturday, February
28th. They're performing at the Moose & Goose, and Soundline Feature Band, Oliver
Black will be opening!
The Grammys may be big, but when it comes to Canadian music, these awards shows
are the ONLY way to see what WAS great, what IS great, and what's going to blow
your mind!
