HE LEFT ME HANGING! - JUST A RANT
By KRISTA HALL
Staff Writer
Ever have somebody tell you they were going to call you right back? How about being put on hold for a second line? Has
the person on the other end ever forgotten to call you back or not remembered that you were still waiting to talk to them
on the other line? Yeah, I'm sure it's happened to all of us once or twice, and I've gotta say, it's really annoying!
I bet you guys are all wondering 'Yeah okay, what does this have to do with an Indie music mag?' Nothing really, but I was
sitting here wondering what I could write about, waiting for a few people to call me back, when I started remembering
some of the silly things that happened to me lately with my friends, boyfriend and a member of Graffiti Park when it
comes to the phone and returning calls.
Let's see, where should I begin? Last week I was talking to my boyfriend on the phone.. he was out at a pool hall with a
few of his buddies and it was his turn to shoot so he put me down for a minute ... 5 minutes ... 10 minutes ... 15 minutes
go by ... yeah, he forgot he put the phone down. I tried calling him back, but his phone was on vibrate, so a lot of good
that did in a loud pool hall, with his phone on the pool table ... the next day when he phoned me back, all he could say
was "Ooops!" yeah, big oops buddy, you're lucky I love ya!
Now, like I said, some interesting things happened on the phone with me and a member of Graffiti Park. I have more than
four years of stories to tell, if you're willing to sit here and listen to them all, if not, you can stop reading now, it's up to
you! I'll try not to bore you to death, so I'll just tell you about a couple ... and oh yeah, I'm still waiting on his phone call
from an "I'll call you back later today" from about a week and a half ago. You know, it's not polite to keep a lady waiting!
All I want is some info on an upcoming show ... I guess I'd have better luck if I called the venue huh? Oh, and don't worry,
when I find out the details of the show, I will be going, and you all will be getting a review, for sure :)
Yeah, I tend to get sidetracked, sorry. Like I was saying ... or was trying to say ... this is going back to a few years ago ... I
wasn't put on hold or was told I'd be called back ... this was completely out of the blue and unexpected. One day my mom
comes running down to my room telling me to answer the phone cause there was some guy wanting to talk to me ... and
me being 16 at the time, she had to ask questions as to who this guy was before she let me talk. Yeah, it was Sam, the
newest member of Graffiti Park. He just called to say hi, see what was up, he had a few minutes to talk before he left for
his gig. Yeah, normally I would have been thrilled that he was calling me, only thing though, it was 7 o'clock in the
morning, and I had the day off school ... Boy was I angry. Yeah, great timing!
Moving on ... I remember one night I was talking to Sam again, and I got a 'Yeah let me call you right back, I'm just doing
some laundry.' I waited, waited, waited some more and finally decided to call him back about 3 hours later. Well, I got
quite the surprise when his dad answered the phone and told me he was in Texas ... yep, Texas! And my mom calls me a
gypsy ...
How about this one ... 'I can't talk to you right now cause it's costing me a million dollars a minute' but yet you can change
the message on your voicemail twenty times before you're finally satisfied with it? And doing that didn't cost money? Okie
dokie!
What about 'I know I talked to someone this morning, but I just can't remember who.' Yeah that was me. 'That was you?!
Oh my gosh, what did I say?' Yeah, you know you've had too much to drink the night before when ...
Or what about 'The pole hit me' The pole hit you?! 'Yes, the pole hit me' ...
Yeah, lets save that one for another time.
