CASHBOOK CLIQUE Online Review

By HELEN SHUMILIN
Staff Writer

Cashbook Clique is an innovative new hip hop group dedicated to fusing Jamaican heritage with American sound. Keez, Bin Law, Scafffle and Bentley Ann blend together their unique skills to produce original videos and audio. The band is quite new and originated in 2008 along with Street Dream Records.

The first song I listened to was “Street Dreaming”, which is the anthem for their group, and definitely paints a picture of what their songwriters and singers are capable of. The song has a calming, melodic introduction, which uses repetition to promote street dreaming and is actually quite catchy. It eases into a more ethnic Jamaican language (patois), which is fun to listen to and is full of culture for those who understand it. The video has a very ethnic feel, showcasing beautiful beaches and local activities. The song caught my attention quite quickly, and embedded the chorus in my head for most of the day.

"Toppa Di World" is an easier song to listen to for those who cannot understand patois, or have trouble taking the time to understand it. It has a very American modern rap game sound which is comparable to big time underground rappers, due to smooth, flowing, poetic expression. This is the kind of song that can become a radio hit and clique classic. Female vocals add a down to earth feel of multi gendered music al harmony.

Cashbook Clique is definitely an original union of talented quadruplets born under the Street Dream innovation. There is nothing more refreshing than keeping heritage on the same priority level as modern rap fads.
