For most of us out there, when we hear the word “Reggae”, the first person that usually pops into our head is Bob Marley. He is agreed to be the most easily recognized artist of this genre. However, there are many others out there today that are continuing to bring Reggae music to those all over the world.
And CJ Priest is one of them.
Born and raised in Naussau Bahamas, CJ (Charles Gardiner Jr.) was often scolded by his teachers in College for paying more attention to his music than his studies. His teachers did not recognize that music would soon become his lifeblood.
His singing career began as a member of a gospel group called “The Soul Winners.” This group was a long overdue fulfillment of a childhood dream of performing music. However, CJ soon developed a love for singing that required a bigger stage to showcase his talent.
In 2008, CJ walked into the office of BuffBoo Records and formed a partnership between BuffBoo, Frontline Productions and CJ Priest. The addition of the title “Priest” was added to signify his belief and purpose in life. To Priest, with life comes the responsibility to inspire others and he has chosen reggae music as his medium of choice.
His music is food for the heart and soul with positive themes and creative phrasing. Each song has a crisp, clean rhythm accompanied with inspiring lyrics.
His latest release, titled “Help Us”, reflects many of the social and political issues that traditional Reggae music is known for. “Like You” is a song that has the potential to be played across the world, across all of the musical airwaves.
