CRAVING MORE ... CRAVING LUCY Digital Review

By DEREK WALSH

This was the first time I had ever heard of Craving Lucy. I checked out their MySpace site and found that they are on tour with none other then Korn. This caught my attention, so I went ahead and gave 'em a listen.

The first track is “Colorblind”, which features grinding guitars bought to you courtesy of axe man Mark Fitzpatrick, and some pretty good hooks, not life changing or anything but a solid start.

“Watch Over Me” comes next, a slightly darker song, hence the lyric “you brought out the darkness in me”. A song of loss and despair. Ironically, the next song is called “Therapy” (possibly because of what may have happened to inspire “Watch Over Me”?)

In “Therapy”, lead singer Steve Archambault seems to be very pissed at a significant other. I would not want to be this person. Temper rising, still find you some how, one step behind, can you feel me breathe, are some of the ideas mentioned. Not a good place to be psychologically speaking. All the while drummer Justin Pace slams the point home with authority.

Next up we have “Alive”, which is a really surprising change of pace. It’s actually a really pretty song. Seems this foursome has a soft spot. This number has a really cool melody, and bassist Nate Comp provides the backbone, gently moving the song along very smoothly, which compliments the sincerity of the lyrics. I noticed a sense of vulnerability in the vocals at one point.

“Collide” is back on the dark side. These guys really know how to paint a picture both musically and lyrically. It features a pretty cool guitar solo - I wish it were longer though.

Now last, and certainly not least, “One last time around”. Now, by nature, I prefer the heavy stuff. But this song is my favourite. A simple acoustic tune featuring a cello, which takes the song to the next level. This song gives these guys a chance to put their harmonizing skills at the forefront, and they really nail it. Maybe a tip of the hat to fellow Boston Alumni, Aerosmith. I would not be surprised if this track ends up on mainstream rock radio.

These four Beantown boys are well on their way to big things.
