KILL SUMMER BOREDOM . . . LISTEN TO SOMETHING NEW
By MELISSA WISEMAN

As we slowly entered into the summer months, and the prospects of me getting a job looking grim, it was suggested to me to do a review for a local group here in St. John's. So I decided to take the suggestion and see what would come of it.
It was not the first time I had heard of Dr. Zoo, but I had never any of their music prior to this time. I remember seeing signs posted all around the campus of the university I attended for shows they were doing but it had never interested me. Who knew that after hearing the first song, my mind would change.
"Can Only Get Better" was the first song. After hearing the first note, I knew that I was going to like it. The melody was upbeat and the lyrics to the song seemed to be trying to get a message out to everyone who heard it.
The more I listened, the more I liked. The second song "Everybody Wants to Believe in Something" can definitely be listed among one of my favorite songs. I've always been a person who listens to not only the music, but the lyrics of the song as well.
As the songs continued, my liking for the group increased. Each of the songs that followed has a catchy beat to them, which kept you wanting to hear more. Although some of their songs seem to have some serious lyrics to them, they still know how to rock out and have fun with songs such as "S.F.F."
Since the release of their debut CD in February 2003, the group has been performing in many places throughout the province, Canada and world wide, sharing their music with anyone who would be willing to listen to it.
All in all I was quite impressed with the CD. I'll definitely take the opportunity to see when they play here in town again. Each song seems to have a story line behind it. In most cases, you are left to interpret it as you wish. As the chorus says in "Can Only Get Better":
Every year, every year, it's the same, it's the same
As I look to the world and question again
And I know in my heart that things can only get better
There's no doubt about it. Things will only get better for Dr. Zoo.
