FOUR OUT OF FIVE AIN'T BAD
Oliver Black
Thursday, February 12, 2004 - The Kave
By CHARLOTTE LEE
Staff Writer
I went to go see Oliver Black this past Thursday at the Kave in Welland. The performance was an almost shocking good
show.
I have seen shows at the Kave before and they had been all right for what they were (garage bands in the bottom of a
bar) but this band defiantly rocked the house and was quite at home in the Kavern. The bluesy rock band is an original
mix of everything right from both ends of the spectrum (blues and rock), and with the lead singers punk energy, complete
friendliness, and her jagged, edgy dance moves to the songs, they manage to get the crowd pumping.
The band started out with some remakes of old songs in their first set to get everyone singing along, and moved right into
the new and original stuff in the second. Their songs go through a lot of mood swings from Nevermore Righteous, that
has a scat and up beat type of feel to it, to my personal favorite, Wearing Red, which is a slow old school rock feeling
song. Every song has a blues background in it and is meshed together with hard rock rifts and old school rock melodies,
which makes it a nice change from the ever-popular emo that's being played all too much these days.
I have seen quite a lot of bands in concert, and this band managed to keep it together with excellent harmonies and no
mistakes (from what I heard). Most bands jumping around on stage lose all sight of where the right note is, this band has
it right on cue all the time. The band does a great performance live and are defiantly a must see at some point this year.
The music is a new moody music that will make you want to get up, start dancing and, scream along to the lyrics. If you
want to know more about Oliver Black then you can listen to their music and check out where they'll be playing this year
at www.oliverblackmusic.com, or just visit them at the Kave every Thursday.
All in all I give this band a great big four out of five stars.
Why is one gone if they're so good you ask? Well some songs were just not to my taste and quite frankly they can play
them great, but if the song isn't great then you won't like it.
Go check them out for yourself. Trust me, it wont be a waste of your time.
