THE ANGEL/DEVIL Redlands
By DEREK WALSH
Staff Writer
Released through lead singer/guitar Goodling’s S3 records, Redlands
takes you on a journey that rivals anything on the airwaves today.
The production is flawless, the bass line of “Black Train Comin”
sweeps the listener away via Billy Driver’s sonic haze of bass line,
guitar comes in, disappears, comes at you again from somewhere else,
all the while the drummer Jesse Rich keeps this track moving.
“Hit the Light” features some Bono-esk vocals and creates an expansive,
almost soaring feeling, makes me wish I had a convertible and an open
highway.
“Lets head out tonight” is a song about moving on and
letting the past go (no one can tell us just what lies in store, so
come with me now and the world will be fine on its own).
“The Martyr” seems to be written for some one we all have known, “don’t you wish
everything would fall to pieces yeah?” but the song is strangely
upbeat instrumentally with a fun guitar solo half way through.
This is truly an original album, you can hear bits and pieces of bands who
have influenced The Angel/Devil in their music but they have created
something completely different.
