THAT'S EDMONTON FOR YOU!
Raising environmental awareness through music

So what happens when you get a bunch of local bands together to promote an issue that has an immediate impact on every living thing on this earth?

Well it may not be Live 8, but as far as the Edmonton local band scene is concerned, Trevor Anderson could give Sir Bob Geldoff a run for his money.

That’s Edmonton For You! is a local collaboration of Edmonton-based musicians, looking to raise awareness about the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (or ICLEI for short) congress meetings being held in Edmonton, Alberta.

It is a group commited to bringing small communities, towns and cities into the fold about environmental issues. Giving ideas and genuinely supporting environmental movements.

As these local indie superstars gathered to support a worthwhile cause, it was Trevor Anderson that brought them together in the first place.

“It’s a great way to get more out of local bands,” says Trevor, “as a bunch of musicians working together to create something new, not just another mix tape!”

That’s Edmonton for You! is definitely showcasing some local talent. Nik Kozub of Shout Out Out Out, Ted Wright of The James T. Kirks, and a whole cast of local talent that any fan of independent music would be wise to listen too.

“It’s a smörgåsbord of local talent!” Trevor stated gleefully.

So how does one organize a festival to promote two very important aspects, the environment and local talent, in one package? Well you bring your friends along!

“Most of these guys I’ve known through the local scene. But some of them, this is first time working together to create something new. I also wanted to work with people who I knew would be professional and work well together.”

This outside concert, being held in the heart of Edmonton’s sceanic River Valley, is all about sustainablitly. To sustain the environment as well as the indie underground culture.

Trevor seemed happy to talk about his love for the Edmonton music scene and how all much work it all was to put together a festival of this magnitude. His collaborations with other local artists were nothing short of positive, but they never let go of the true purpose of why they were there, the environment.

It only would make sense to utilize any avenue they could to promote such an important aspect of our lives, and the lives of the next generation. The environment is a giant issue for many youths these days, as most are spear-heading their own movements to make it important. I only hope Trevor will continue to do the same, and perhaps someone in his audience will take it, and spread the message that he has brought to Edmonton’s attention.

I think we needs it.

In short, I hope to see and hear more interesting things out of Trevor Anderson, as the man seems to be well connected in the city of Edmonton. From politicians, to local talent, he is a man who has many possibilities to help the arts in Edmonton to grow, and showcase the true talents of many who just want their own voice heard.
